I spent almost the whole day today working on my novel but I barely wrote any new words. What I did manage to do was wrangle my complicated multiple points of view, dual timeline, non-linear incomplete draft into a structure which finally makes sense.
Whenever I stall with my writing, there is always an underlying reason. As my story has evolved, I have found it increasingly difficult to keep track of what I am writing. I have simplified my narrative- for the time being- such that the ‘present day’ arc is now the main timeline. All the words I have written for the ‘past’ timeline can be slotted in later, either piecemeal or as a block in a separate part.
It has taken a lot of thinking and shifting things around but the good news is that my way forward is much clearer.
This first draft will get written yet!
