5 Things to Do in the Peak District

This weekend, we are heading back to the Peak District for a short lodge break at Darwin Forest – this is where we stayed for our 20th anniversary in May. Here are five things we want to do when we are there:

  1. Chatsworth House – this beautiful house is home to the Devonshire family and purported to be the inspiration for Mr Darcy’s Pemberley in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (and in fact was the external shooting location for Joe Wright’s 2005 film). We will be exploring the house and gardens – Rich and I were too busy having the immense and exquisite afternoon tea in the Carriage House to walk too far when we visited in May – and we will also be visiting the Farm.
  2. Heights of Abraham – this Matlock attraction is one I have never visited despite my countless trips to the area. It looks super fun with a cable car, hilltop park, and caverns. We are even booked into the Halloween grotto!
  3. Stanage Edge – this stunning location (also made famous from the above-mentioned film) is such a great place for walks.
  4. Darwin Forest – the place we are staying at has gorgeous lodges (hot tubs!) and facilities so we will likely stay on site quite a bit so the kids can go swimming, play in the soft play, do other activities, and walk in the surrounding woods.
  5. The Bulls Head in Ashford in the Water – we have our Saturday Night dinner booked here. It has excellent reviews in Trip Advisor and we are looking forward to some traditional pub grub.
