I go through phases of loving to cook for my family and phases of finding it the most indescribable torture to have to think of meals, day in day out. It is a part of adulthood that I did not expect and some days, the burden of providing food is overwhelmingly heinous. Cookbooks, therefore, offer a lovely little boost when my inspiration is lacking. These are the ones I reach for most often:
- What’s for Dinner by Sarah Rossi – the woman behind the incredible TamingTwins.com website brought out her first cookbook earlier this year. It has meal plans, shopping lists, and most importantly, easy, sensible, and delicious meals for the family.
- The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Dinnertime by Ree Drummond – another blogger turned cookbook writer, these books are filled with scrumptious and hearty American cooking as well as beautiful photos of her life, family, and home on an Oklahoma ranch.
- One Pot Dinners by Sainsbury’s – easy simple meals with ingredients I know I can easily buy.
- Pinch of Nom by Kay Allinson and Kate Allinson – these recipes are all on the lighter side so great for when you are trying to be a bit healthier.
- Hello Fresh – while not a cookbook, having an on-again off-again subscription to Hello Fresh has given me a folder full of great, yummy recipes which I cook over and over, finding the ingredients myself and making tweaks as needed. Hello Fresh can be a bit pricey to do all the time for families (I think they are probably better suited to couples) but it is always nice to have a couple of meals decided with all the ingredients provided. And even after I cancel, I will keep hold of the recipe cards for our family favourites.
