- Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros – a fantasy romance with dragons. I haven’t read much fantasy this year but this felt very easy to get into with excellent world-building. I read it very quickly.
- Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak – so so creepy! I devoured this in a day (half-term reading for the win!). A recovering addict becomes a nanny for a five-year-old boy who draws creepy pictures. It is perfect for Spooky Season.
- The Whispering House by Elizabeth Brooks – with hints of Northanger Abbey, this modern gothic tale is beautifully written and the tension is built so well.
- The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams – it took me a while to get into this but I am so glad I did. A love letter to language and a lovely sweeping story about family and growing up.
- The Last Summer by Karen Swan – dubbed a ‘wild, romantic tale’, this historical story is loosely connected to the real events of the island of St Kilda which had to be evacuated in the 1930s as the islanders could no longer survive on the island. I am excited to read the next in the series which is out now.
