Evelina’s school shoes fell apart on Friday and although we tried to find a new pair yesterday, by yesterday evening, we were having to superglue her sole back on. Thankfully, her foot growth seems to have slowed down, but finding school shoes for a size 7 is still not easy. After school today, we took the family over to the shopping park to try Marks and Spencer. There was nothing in the children’s section that fit but we were delighted to find a pair of patent brogues that fit and, even better, were actually comfortable.

While we were there, I picked up a new pair of work shoes too – I may have to go to some interviews shortly so I wanted to have some smarter shoes that don’t have dried chewing gum on the soles.

When I got home, I wore my new shoes around the house as I can never tell just by trying in a shop what shoes will be comfortable and what shoes are actually the work of the devil trying to inflict torture via my bunion. So far, they seem to be on the right side of righteousness. And the block heel makes me feel like I have regained some of my lost stature.
