I Want to Remember

I want to remember how Austin snuggles up with Rich to watch TV. His neck is right in the crook of Rich’s arm and he places his hand on Rich’s stomach. There is such a happy stillness to these moments.

I want to remember the happy flush on Evelina’s face when she came home from her second session of cricket winter training of the week. I love that she enjoys this sport so much. She doesn’t even mind training with the boys this year either.

I want to remember the way Harper bounds after her ball, with the prestorm gusts already tugging at the earth. Her mid-air catches, her cheerful gambols, her leaps over the boggy puddles, I want to remember them all.

I want to remember the thrilling sensation of waking for the first time in days feeling better after a miserable cold. This morning, I woke and immediately knew I had slept better: my head was clearer, my throat was less dry and my nose was less stuffed up. It was wonderful.

I want to remember the joy of the whole family laughing at a movie together. We watched The Emperor’s New Groove – a Disney film that has somehow managed to pass me by – and I was so tickled by it. Those hearty laugh-out-loud moments when the whole family is guffawing together – perfect bliss!
