I read 46 books last year. This means I did not meet my 50 book challenge target but I am really happy with this number nonetheless. I have updated my Reading Challenge page so you can see what I read last year. Here are my top ten books for 2023:
- Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (audio)
- The Wake Up Call by Beth O’Leary (audio)
- Starling House by Alix E. Harrow (audio)
- Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak (Kindle)
- The Whispering House by Elizabeth Brooks (hardback)
- The Silent Patient by Alex Michealides (paperback)
- Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (hardback)
- Happy Place by Emily Henry (Kindle)
- The Silent Land by Graham Joyce (Kindle)
- The Lost Tide Warriors by Catherine Doyle (paperback)
This is a lot more fantasy than I have ever read and I think I have definitely been influenced by bookstagrammers as this is not a genre I have read a lot of before. I would say this top ten list is a pretty good indication of my current reading vibes both in terms of genre and format.
One thing I really notice as I look back on my reading for 2023 is that I would not have been close to my total without audiobooks as they made up a decent percentage. I was chatting to a friend yesterday about what I have read so far in 2024 and all four books have been audiobooks. The other book which I have almost finished is a Kindle book. The main reason for this is my eyesight. As my eyesight has deteriorated, I find reading physical books impossible without my reading glasses which means not only do I have to remember to put my phone down so I can pick a book up, but I also need to make sure I know where my reading glasses are.
I had to pop into WHSmiths earlier to finalise party bag fillers (so many feelings about these – it’s another blog post for sure) and this little item caught my eye.

This is exactly what I need! So I bought it! Now my glasses can stay attached to my reading book and I won’t keep losing my glasses. Here’s to lots of lovely reading for 2024, however it happens!
