Five Local Places to Visit

We live in such a brilliant part of the country for seeing historical houses and beautiful countryside. However, when things are on your doorstep, it sometimes takes an extra kick to get you out to see them. There are five local sights I want to visit this year:

  1. The Lord Leycester, Warwick – we drive by this 900 year old building almost daily but we have never actually visited!
  1. Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Shottery – this is part of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and this cottage was owned by Shakespeare’s wife. It is in the village of Shottery just outside Stratford-upon-Avon and I have parked in the car park many times when visiting Evelina’s school but have never properly seen the cottage or been inside.
  1. The Charterhouse, Coventry – I was happy to learn that the National Trust was adding another local location to its roster and the first in the city of Coventry.
  1. Birmingham Back to Backs – Keeping in the National Trust, I have been meaning to visit these historic Birmingham buildings for years.
  1. Kenilworth Castle – I have never visited this ruined castle. Having Warwick Castle on the doorstep tends to overshadow the Kenilworth site. Also, both children have visited on school trips which tends to make the visit seem less important. Perhaps this could be an artist date for just me!?
