Book Review: Howards End

Howards EndHowards End by E.M. Forster

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book definitely fell under the banner of ‘must read some day’ for me and since I am determined to make a dent in that list of books this year, it is fitting that it is the first novel I have read in 2013.

Whilst Howards End started off a little slowly for me, the characters had an appeal which kept me reading, as I wondered where these rich but bored sisters would end up. The second half flew by and I can see myself wanting to revisit the book at some point; I was so eager to learn the outcome, I did not spend much time considering the themes of family, class, and gender. I could certainly see this as being a text I would like to teach someday. Moreover, I will definitely be seeing out A Room with a View at some point.
