When I first started teaching, my lovely colleague Louise made me a jar in which I was to capture moments in the school day that made me happy. There are so many challenges in the job that it is important that we try to hang on to the parts of the job that make it worth it.
Sadly, the jar broke recently. I don’t know if this is a sign or a metaphor but it is hard to stay positive at the moment. I did manage to salvage the notes I had. They tell me of moments with students that I don’t even remember and are few that I do. I haven’t had many moments to add lately. I don’t know if they aren’t happening or if I just can’t recognise them when they do.
I will make a new jar and see if I can fill it.
Sorry to hear that you’re not having many positives at the moment. Teaching can be tough but there are moments and students that make it worth it. The jar sounds like a great idea and I hope the salvaged notes give you a lift. Wishing you luck with filling the new jar x
