My List of 20 in 2020

My list of 19 things for 2019 was a total success. I allowed it to be a success by changing up some of the items on the list. I didn’t see the point of ignoring all the things that I had managed to achieve just so that I could stick doggedly to (and fail at) a list of my own making.

In that spirit, I have made my list of 20 things for 2020. I reserve the right to change as needed. There are some repeat items (visit a new place, for example), some items that were originally on my 2019 list that didn’t get completed (the FutureFirst course) and another long book that I have been meaning to read for ages (The Goldfinch). I have avoided anything that needs to be tracked over time (for example my annual reading goal of reading 50 books which I actually did achieve this year for the first time). This is because I want to be able to tick off as I go and a year is ever such a long time over which to measure something.

  1. Finish Austin’s quilt;
  2. Complete a project life album;
  3. Choose a word of the year;
  4. Read something or attend something that will further my professional practice;
  5. Attend a book launch;
  6. Go on a writer’s retreat;
  7. Attend a concert;
  8. Take the kids to a new swimming pool;
  9. Eat at a new (to us) restaurant with Rich;
  10. Visit a new place;
  11. Take a yoga or pilates class (in real life or online);
  12. Get our home filing organised;
  13. Read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt;
  14. Complete the Literature and Mental Health course by Future First;
  15. Write in an unusual place;
  16. Have coffee with a friend;
  17. Organise the children’s artwork;
  18. Go on a family bike ride;
  19. Bake something new with the kiddos;
  20. Go to the theatre.
