My list of 19 things for 2019 was a total success. I allowed it to be a success by changing up some of the items on the list. I didn’t see the point of ignoring all the things that I had managed to achieve just so that I could stick doggedly to (and fail at) a list of my own making.
In that spirit, I have made my list of 20 things for 2020. I reserve the right to change as needed. There are some repeat items (visit a new place, for example), some items that were originally on my 2019 list that didn’t get completed (the FutureFirst course) and another long book that I have been meaning to read for ages (The Goldfinch). I have avoided anything that needs to be tracked over time (for example my annual reading goal of reading 50 books which I actually did achieve this year for the first time). This is because I want to be able to tick off as I go and a year is ever such a long time over which to measure something.
- Finish Austin’s quilt;
- Complete a project life album;
- Choose a word of the year;
- Read something or attend something that will further my professional practice;
- Attend a book launch;
- Go on a writer’s retreat;
- Attend a concert;
- Take the kids to a new swimming pool;
- Eat at a new (to us) restaurant with Rich;
- Visit a new place;
- Take a yoga or pilates class (in real life or online);
- Get our home filing organised;
- Read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt;
- Complete the Literature and Mental Health course by Future First;
- Write in an unusual place;
- Have coffee with a friend;
- Organise the children’s artwork;
- Go on a family bike ride;
- Bake something new with the kiddos;
- Go to the theatre.
